Important Tip Submission Guidelines – Please read before posting!

1. Provide useful information. We want avoid our interactive map becoming cluttered with personally holiday snaps and content that provides no useful advice to photographers or videographers. Tips that are neither helpful, location specific, or photography related, risk being deleted by our administration monkey!

2. Don’t duplicate information given in previous tips. We recommend reviewing tips already posted for the location you wish to highlight to confirm your entry will provide additional information and avoid content repetition. Tips that recycle previous content, without providing a new perspective, may be reported by members and deleted by our grumpy monkey.

3. Stick to the subject–photography tips! We want you to base your tip on personal experience and we’re happy if you mention the rewards and difficulties you encountered shooting, reaching and staying at this location, but please keep your text relevant to photography. Yes, the bed might have been uncomfortable in your hotel, and the food spicy in Bangkok–mention it if you like–but please try to keep off-topic commentary to a minimum.

4. Photo Ratios. We prefer tip photos in the ‘landscape’ rather than ‘portrait’ orientation–they simply fit better into our tip-page layout. Photos ‘taller’ than a 5×7 ratio will extend beyond the top & bottom of a viewers screen, so please try to avoid narrow crops. Our admin monkey likes things short and fat rather than tall and thin!

5. Respect Copyright. Submit only material that you own, or have or legal permission to upload to this site.

6. Be polite. Offensive material, unsolicited advertising and spam won’t make it past our Monkey! Inappropriate content may also be reported by members via the ‘Report Tip’ tab on all tip pages.

7. Are you ready? Before you begin entering information, please ensure you’re ready to go with your completed text, 1 to 6 photos, an optional video, and all other relevant information. We advise you work on your text with a word processing program then copy & paste it into the relevant fields. It’s ok to be brief–you can always add more information later–however Published tips that appear incomplete risk being deleted.

8. Review your entry. When you click ‘save,’ your tip will upload as a Draft and you’ll be redirected to your planner, here you can amend your tip if necessary. Once you’ve looked over its details, simply click ‘save’ a second time and it will  automatically reassign from ‘Draft’ to ‘Published’ — for the world to see!

To avoid disappointment, please be sure to your tip is complete when published. Check your work as soon as you upload an entry. You can edit all Published tips, but if your newly Published tip appears incomplete when reviewed by our Admin Monkey, he might toss it among the rotten bananas!
If you set the Great Pyramids of Giza as a natural feature in Antartica, we’ll be sending an angry gorilla to knock on your door!

To Edit a tip,  simply click on ‘my planner’ below the ‘hub’ on the main menu bar. All your tips will be listed there.

To Classify your tip,  if you’re not sure how, please review Categories, Locations & Tags. Some tips fall into more than one category, in which case simply choose the one you think fits best.

Don’t worry if your photos and videos aren’t award winners,  remember the objective here is to help others with their photography rather than create an album for your best work. In fact we like to see the photos that didn’t make it into your ‘best shots’ album, just so you can tell us what you’d do next time to improve your images at this location. Of course if you did manage to snare a fantastic photo, feel free to share that too. Just tell us how you took it!

Would it be more appropriate as a blog? If your entry falls outside our tip submission guidelines, you still might like to submit it as a blog. We have an assortment of blogs, including shooting techniques and trip reports. Here you can tell us all about how your eyes watered eating that spicy food in Bangkok! If you’d like to contact us and describe your idea, we’d be happy to consider it.

Thanks for your cooperation! Now we’re done with the boring stuff, please go ahead and submit your tip. We can’t wait to check it out!
